Why this topic?
- Both in individual and team sports, in addition to physical, tactical and technical training, maximising mental and psychic strength is a prerequisite for lasting success, which is based on a high level of self-awareness, social awareness and functional social relationships. According to a 2008 survey after the Beijing Olympics, the two key factors for successful Olympic performance were the athlete-coach relationship and the athlete’s high level of self-awareness, as evidenced by research findings presented at the 2015 World Class Performance Conference in London. If a sports team invests in developing relationships and self-awareness, it will outperform its competitors.
- Self-awareness, knowledge of strengths and weaknesses and the application of the best matching leadership and management techniques and styles are also crucial in successful leadership (coaching, managerial) activities.
